PFLAG is a national, grassroots, chapter-based organization that is currently organized in more than\u00a0350 communities.<\/p>\n
PFLAG has elected leadership and paid staff who serve unique functions within the organization. This section outlines PFLAG\u2019s organizational structure: the Board of Directors, Regional Directors, chapter leaders, and staff.\u00a0 This outline is intended to help you understand where you are represented in the organization, and the human resources available to you within PFLAG.<\/p>\n
Board of Directors<\/strong> The Board of Directors is responsible for the governance of the organization and for setting the PFLAG’s goals.\u00a0The Board elects the National President and hires the Executive Director.\u00a0The National President presides over the Board and the national organization.\u00a0The Executive Director is responsible for management of the national office and program development.<\/p>\n Regional Directors Council<\/strong> Every two years, Regional Directors elect a Chair who serves as Vice President on PFLAG\u2019s Board of Directors.\u00a0Six additional Regional Directors elected positions serve on the Board of Directors.<\/p>\n For PFLAG members, the Regional Director\u00a0is their link to PFLAG\u2019s national leadership. These individuals\u00a0share\u00a0member perspectives and activities with the PFLAG Board of Directors and national staff. They also assist in all aspects of affiliate development and coordinate regional conferences to bring PFLAG activists together for skill-building and networking.<\/p>\n Affiliates<\/strong> All chapter and state councils need to identify a leader, who is most often called President.\u00a0The chapter or state council may also choose to organize a Board of Directors or steering committee to help guide and govern the chapter.<\/p>\n National Office Staff<\/strong>
\nPFLAG is governed by a 21-member Board of Directors. As a whole, they have ultimate responsibility for the organization.\u00a0Board members are volunteers, and serve three-year terms.\u00a0Board members are limited to serving two terms.\u00a0Board members are elected in three ways:<\/p>\n\n
\nAs set out in PFLAG\u2019s bylaws, PFLAG is organized in fourteen regions. The members of each region elect a Regional Director who works with\u00a0PFLAG National Staff\u00a0for support, resources\u00a0and to help start new affiliates.\u00a0Regional Directors are volunteers, and serve two-year terms.\u00a0Regional Directors are limited to serving three terms.<\/p>\n
\nThere are three types of affiliates within the PFLAG network:\u00a0representatives, chapters\u00a0<\/em>andstate councils.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

\nPFLAG employs an Executive Director who reports directly to the Board.\u00a0The Executive Director hires staff to carry out the work of the PFLAG National Office and the staff reports to the Executive Director. The primary role of the staff is to nurture the work of PFLAG\u2019s affiliate network and to promote PFLAG\u2019s presence in the national arena, including Congress and the Executive Branch, coalitions with organizations who share our goals, and the media.\u00a0 The staff is organized in the following departments:<\/p>\n\n
